Headwaters for Heroes is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization serving our Combat Wounded Veterans & Gold Star families through hunting and fishing events as a base foundation for our outdoor therapy programs. They focus on group events and have firm belief that true healing will take place in a community of those that have experienced the struggles and sacrifices of war. The healing process in most cases never ends, but if by being surrounded by others with similar experiences can make the process easier, then they will continue our efforts in giving the platform to those who need it.
Headwaters for Heroes was started by Steven and Donna Sweeney. Their mission was to find ways to take veterans and Gold Star Families on fishing and hunting trips to show their appreciation for the soldiers and families sacrifices to America. They also wanted to create an environment that would allow the veterans and Gold Star Families to connect with other veterans and their families.
Headwaters for Heroes got its name not only due to their annual fundraisers being held at the Headwaters Saloon in Harper, but also because of the definition of “headwaters”. It is the beginning or source of a stream, the place where something new begins. This is exactly what Steven and Donna believe these heroes need, a new beginning. A place to begin their new journey.
Headwaters Saloon is located at 229 South Ranch Road in Harper, TX. Their 10th annual benefit will be held there on April 30th and proceeds will all go towards helping combat veterans and Gold Star Families. There will be a sporting clay shoot, car show, motorcycle rally, live auction, BBQ and live music all day. There will also be a special raffle for a chance to win a fully restored 1963 Ford Falcon Station Wagon.
Starting this past January Headwaters for Heroes began a new journey in its dedication to honoring our veterans and their families, H4H Outdoors on the Pursuit Channel. H4H Outdoors is a TV show that follows the organization as they take veterans and Gold Star Families on hunting and fishing trips. These trips take place on ranches throughout Texas and are made possible only through the generous donations, fundraising and dedication of those who wish to express their gratitude to these brave men and women and their families.
